Summary: This session reviewed our practicum placements and went over observational notes in the first half in conjunction with what we read about journaling. The second half focused on planning a thematic unit and individual lesson plans.
  • check out the demographics (age, nationality, institution)
  • "homework is take home quiz"
  • do grammar lessons based on need
  • 2% of class time is spent on academic language
  • assumptions about reflective teaching (teachers should know about teaching, teaching is a complex multidimensional activity, much can be learned through self-inquiry, much of what happens is unknown to the teacher, experience is insufficient as a basis for development, critical reflection can trigger a deeper understanding)
  • Bloom's Taxonomy
  • create thematic unit plan
  • create lesson plan

Thoughts: This session was okay. I feel like I can cover much of the material at home and that much of the chatting is not beneficial to me. Some of the thoughts are interesting, but much is not.
